Hans Wettstein studied North Indian classical music for more than twelve years in Banaras, India. He began his studies with Professor Ram Chakravarty of Banares Hindu University, an exponent of the Banaras Seniya Gharana. In 1991, he also began studying North Indian classical vocal music (Dhrupad, Khyal) and musicology with Dr. Ritwik Sanyal, among others.
